The Serengeti is a vast ecosystem spanning northern Tanzania. Each year around late November through to December the migrating herds of wildebeest arrive in the Ndutu area of the southern Serengeti of Tanzania and parts of the Ngorongoro conservation area. The calving season, another great spectacle unfolds beginning January through to February when thousands upon thousands of wildebeests, gazelles and zebras are born. Gradually the herds spread west across the Serengeti plains, and around April they start their great migration north towards the Masai Mara.
